Job Description
Daily System Administration:
-
Perform daily checks on BRMS backups, ensuring critical backups complete successfully; investigate and resolve any failures.

Assess backup processes to identify data gaps; modify routines to include any missing libraries or components.

Monitor backup size and duration trends to support effective resource forecasting and planning.
-
Manage virtual tape storage using Data Domain VTL, optimizing capacity and performance.
-
Coordinate with third-party vendors to ensure software compatibility and license compliance during OS upgrade cycles.

Administer iSeries security protocols, including user and profile creation, and manage authorization lists.
-
Execute system and application updates, patches, and fixes including OS-level PTFs.

Collaborate with software vendors to troubleshoot and resolve system/application issues.

Use diagnostic tools such as iDoctor and MPG to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.

Document key operational procedures such as system backups, HMC configuration, and RCA (Root Cause Analysis) reports for outages or issues.
Project & Operational Support:

Diagnose and resolve complex system problems in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Support performance tuning initiatives and align with management goals for system optimization.

Follow internal escalation and notification processes for any production-impacting events.

Stay informed on industry developments through ongoing education and training.

Perform additional duties as needed to support the infrastructure environment.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Strong understanding of backup and recovery strategies, including BRMS, NetBackup, and Data Domain VTL.

Proven experience with OS upgrade planning, including coordination with external vendors.

Proficient in installing, patching, and upgrading operating systems and related applications.

Knowledgeable in LPAR and HMC configuration and administration.

Programming skills in CL, RPG, SQL, and PHP.

Familiarity with basic networking concepts, including cabling and switches.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong collaboration and documentation abilities.

Experience in vendor relationship management and ensuring SLA compliance.

Self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset, particularly in support processes.

Willingness to provide after-hours support or monitoring when needed.
