A leading research-driven investment management firm specializing in institutional finance is seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator with strong development skills. This dual-role position involves managing critical database infrastructure while supporting the development of quantitative investment applications, impacting portfolio management, trading, and data analytics.

Role Overview
The SQL Server Database Administrator will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and securing high-availability database environments, along with developing and implementing data solutions that support sophisticated financial models and trading platforms. This role offers the opportunity to influence both infrastructure stability and application performance within a dynamic, data-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage database Disaster Recovery (DR) and High Availability (HA) configurations to ensure continuous access and data integrity across financial data, portfolios, and trading systems
  • Install, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server instances across development, QA, and production environments
  • Design and develop robust quantitative investment applications, system interfaces, databases, and reporting solutions
  • Perform advanced data analysis, query optimization, database tuning, and reliability assessments to enhance system performance
  • Proactively monitor database systems to ensure security, high-availability, and operational resilience
  • Collaborate with development teams on database schema design, index tuning, and SQL query optimization following industry best practices
  • Manage deployment and release of database changes across multiple environments with controlled change management
  • Apply security patches and updates according to maintenance schedules to safeguard data integrity and compliance
  • Oversee data workflows, including data ingestion, processing, and monitoring, to maintain seamless operations

Core Qualifications & Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of SQL Server Database Administration experience in a production environment
  • At least 5 years of SQL development experience including stored procedures, packaged queries, triggers, views, and scripting in multi-user environments
  • Hands-on experience with SQL Server High Availability (Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering) and disaster recovery planning
  • Ability to translate business requirements into database schema, stored procedures, views, and functions
  • Proficiency in performance tuning, data analysis, and query optimization techniques
  • Experience with C, C++, or related programming languages is a significant plus
  • Familiarity with institutional market data platforms such as Bloomberg, FactSet, S&P Global, or similar is highly desirable

Nice-to-Have Qualifications
  • Experience with financial data platforms and market data integration
  • Knowledge of data governance and compliance standards within financial services
  • Cloud database management experience (Azure SQL, AWS RDS)

  • SQL Server (2016, 2017, 2019, or later)
  • SQL Server High Availability (Always On, Clustering) and Disaster Recovery (DR)
  • SQL development (stored procedures, triggers, views, functions, scripting)
  • Database performance tuning and optimization
  • Data workflows, ETL processes, and data pipelines
  • Monitoring and security patching
  • Programming languages: C, C++ (preferred)
  • Familiarity with enterprise data platforms (Bloomberg, FactSet, S&P Global)
