Job Description
A leading legal services provider within the litigation and government law sectors is seeking a highly experienced Paralegal to support complex state and federal litigation, appellate work, and administrative law matters in a fast-paced environment.
Role Overview
This role offers the opportunity to coordinate all phases of litigation from case initiation to trial and appeal, supporting attorneys with document management, procedural compliance, and trial logistics. The Paralegal will play a crucial part in managing multiple litigation and administrative projects, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
- Support attorneys in all phases of state and federal civil litigation, from case inception through trial, post-trial, and appellate proceedings
- Manage litigation workflows including pre-trial discovery, depositions, motions, and court filings in accordance with California, Federal, and local court procedural rules
- Draft, review, and cite-check pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, legal correspondence, and appellate documents
- Track and manage case deadlines, court-imposed scheduling orders, and compliance with procedural rules for civil and appellate courts
- Coordinate written discovery, document productions, witness preparation, and deposition logistics, including serving out-of-state subpoenas
- Prepare trial materials such as trial binders, exhibit and witness lists, jury instructions, and pretrial documents
- Manage electronic filing and service of court documents via systems like ECF, California Court e-Filing, or equivalent platforms
- Oversee trial logistics, including courtroom technology, exhibit tracking, and trial presentation tools such as TrialDirector, OnCue, or similar systems
- Assist with post-trial motions, notices of appeal, and appellate briefs, managing deadlines and procedural requirements for California and federal appellate courts
- Utilize litigation support and e-discovery platforms such as Relativity, CS Disco, or comparable systems for large-scale document review and productions
- Support attorneys with trial presentation applications, electronic discovery management, and procedural research
- Maintain strict confidentiality, handle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
Core Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting complex litigation in state and federal courts, including trial support
- Proven track record handling California civil procedures, appellate rules, and local court requirements
- Experience with public agency law matters such as CEQA, eminent domain, code enforcement, and Public Records Act requests preferred
- Familiarity with appellate litigation processes and management of appellate records and briefs
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and document management systems
- Experience with litigation support platforms, e-discovery tools, and trial technology systems (Relativity, CS Disco, TrialDirector, OnCue, or similar)
- Paralegal certificate from ABA-accredited program or equivalent experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
- Outstanding organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and procedural compliance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple complex matters and deadlines
- Tech-savvy with a capacity for learning new litigation technologies and software
- Professional judgment, discretion, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience with appellate case management and appellate document preparation
- Knowledge of trial presentation and litigation support software
- Familiarity with public agency administrative processes and environmental law matters
