Job Description

A Higher Education Client is looking for a Network Engineer who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Network equipment both wired and wireless, and the operation and monitoring of the data network. Daily activities include responding to trouble tickets, monitoring network equipment, and the installation and operational support of edge equipment including all wired network switches, edge switches, and wireless platforms.

All networking staff are required to participate in on-call rotation one week a month and may require additional after-hours work depending on the status of the network.
  • Daily monitoring of network devices and logs to ensure optimum network performance and network stability.
  • Configure, test, install and maintain network hardware and services.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation for all equipment and infrastructure deployed at the university.
  • Assist with the resolution of network issues reported to the University Help Desk.
  • Coordinate with on-site support personnel while troubleshooting Cisco Network support administration such as: LAN, WAN, WLAN.
  • Hands-on in configuration/troubleshooting of Cisco devices.
  • Configure self IPs, port lockdown, and network routes.
  • Routing & Switching/Data Center/Wireless.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents related to Cisco solutions.
  • Researching and implementing necessary upgrades and firmware updates.
  • Configure, install, and troubleshoot wireless networks.
  • Work with Cisco ISE to create and maintain RBAC policies.
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.

  • Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited institution.
  • At least 3 years of Information Technology experience.
  • At least 3 years of working experience in Network Administration.
  • Preferred – CCNP Routing & Switching / Data Center/ Wireless: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent level of knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of the service components such as Cisco Router, Switch, Firewalls.
  • Proficiency in LAN/WAN using routing protocols.
  • Working knowledge of HTTP.
  • Experienced in Troubleshooting traffic flows, and routing.
  • Current hands-on experience in the configuration, management, and operation of Cisco network equipment, including switches, routers, and core devices.
  • Knowledge of Fast Ethernet and other LAN/WAN networks.
  • Ability to prioritize in a sometimes rapidly changing and time-critical environment.
  • Current driver’s license and ability to drive a van, Westchester Campus only.
  • Demonstrate customer-based orientation and a strong service ethic in prior functions and work experience.
  • Keen problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Expected to be able to work in a team environment on individual or large projects.
  • Excellent communication and client interaction skills along with exceptional written and verbal skills as well as technical documentation.
  • Solid attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
