Our client, a prestigious law firm, is seeking a Legal Assistant to join their team in Los Angeles! 


Essential Responsibilities:


  • Prepare, process, and file legal documents related to bankruptcy proceedings in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Gather and organize necessary information from creditors, debtors, trustees, and court personnel.

  • Obtain credit reports and draft Proofs of Claim.

  • File documents electronically with state and federal bankruptcy courts, ensuring adherence to all applicable deadlines and procedures.

  • Maintain and organize physical and electronic case files; monitor case activity using electronic court systems.

  • Transcribe legal dictation, meeting minutes, and recorded discussions from conferences, settlements, or interviews as needed.

  • Review and proofread documents for accuracy in grammar, spelling, punctuation, format, and content.

  • Enter, update, and manage case information in electronic databases.

  • Open, log, and distribute incoming mail; route correspondence to appropriate attorneys or case files.

  • Draft routine correspondence, memoranda, and reports using knowledge of legal practices and firm protocols.

  • Ensure all documents meet court requirements and include necessary components and supporting materials.

  • Compile materials, exhibits, and documents for court hearings, meetings, and other proceedings.

  • Greet visitors and answer incoming calls, providing information on case status, court procedures, and administrative guidelines as appropriate.

  • Coordinate and schedule meetings, court appearances, and travel arrangements for attorneys.

  • Maintain attorneys’ calendars, scheduling appointments, deadlines, and engagements.

  • Request office supplies and services as needed, coordinating with the operations department.

  • Serve as a liaison between attorneys and internal departments or external vendors.

  • Collaborate with the Finance Department regarding billing and invoicing matters.



Required Skills and Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

  • General office operations, policies, and administrative procedures.

  • U.S. Federal Bankruptcy Court Electronic Case Filing (ECF) system.

  • Bankruptcy-specific legal terminology and relevant procedures at the federal and state level.

  • Legal writing conventions, spelling, and grammar.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe Acrobat, and legal research/litigation tools such as PACER, Relativity, Concordance, Westlaw, and LexisNexis.

  • Typing speed of at least 75 WPM with high accuracy.

  • Strong command of written English, including grammar, punctuation, and formatting.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact professionally with clients, attorneys, and colleagues.

  • Team-oriented, dependable, and able to work independently when needed.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education or vocational training preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal assistant or secretary in a law firm, specifically supporting a bankruptcy practice.
