Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Document & Financial Analysis
- Identify, gather, analyze, and organize facts and documents, including wills and trust documents, in alignment with legal procedures.
- Collect, review, and manage financial statements and spreadsheets related to client investments, extracting data for tax return preparation as needed.
Client & Legal Support
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and internal teams to clarify information, verify facts, and identify required documentation.
- Review estate planning documents, wills, and trust agreements to assist in preparing related income and excise tax returns.
- Gather and organize asset and debt information for trusts and estates.
- Maintain records supporting legal actions and analyze legal proceedings to identify potential issues.
Tax & Accounting Preparation
- Develop and implement systems for tracking and accounting client investments to support U.S. trust tax return preparation.
- Prepare U.S. federal and state estate tax returns (Form 706 and state equivalents).
- Prepare fiduciary income tax returns for estates and trusts (Form 1041 and state equivalents).
- Prepare individual and non-profit tax returns (Forms 1040, 709, and 5227).
- Compile trust, estate probate, and fiduciary accountings.
- File tax and accounting extensions as necessary.
- Respond to IRS notices and resolve outstanding tax issues.
- Track deadlines to ensure timely filing of returns, accountings, and extensions when applicable.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
- At least two (2) years of experience as a Fiduciary Accountant or tax preparer.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Estate Valuation Software (EVP), ProSystem FX, FastTax, and GEMS.
- Strong knowledge of trust and estate procedures and trial balance sheet management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and thrive in a collaborative team environment.
